Liberal thought current dialogue: talking to Luigi Einaudi thanks to artificial intelligence

The project, born from the collaboration between the Einaudi Foundation and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation with Reply, was realised through a holistic approach that combined historical and economic research with the use of advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and real-time 3D technologies. This approach aspires to make Luigi Einaudi's intellectual legacy more accessible and understandable to an increasingly diverse audience.

THE INTELLIGENCE MODEL

The ability to engage in coherent dialogue with Einaudi's thinking was achieved through a conversational artificial intelligence model based on the MLFRAME Reply, the framework developed by Reply. This framework integrates a proprietary methodology for database analysis with tools for creating conversational generative models applicable to specific knowledge domains. Following this approach, Machine Learning Reply, with the support of the Einaudi Foundation, built the knowledge base - a corpus of over 250,000 words taken from the author's original volumes and collections - on which the Large Language Model was specialised and the responses of the Digital Human were validated. Thanks to this careful and punctual work, it is now possible to have a contextualized, bidirectional conversation with a response style accessible to everyone.

THE DIGITAL FACE AND PERSONALITY

The key elements of the appearance and iconic gestures of the historical character, crucial for defining the image and personality of the digital human, were identified through the analysis of period photographs and films. Thanks to Epic Games' Meta Human Creator, the initial features of the face were defined, with the refinement of somatic characteristics and detailed elements such as hair and clothing modelling, or body shape to the expertise of Infinity Reply. The body, face, and mouth movements, animated through Unreal Engine, were integrated with the artificial intelligence model to synchronise audio and movements with AI-generated responses. The attention to microexpressions, tone of voice, and expressive style makes the experience complete and engaging.

USER EXPERIENCE AND COMMUNICATION

The project’s overarching concept is to enable everyone to discover liberal thinking through a contemporary dialogue experience. This concept is not only reflected in the design of the user experience, designed to be as immersive as possible, but also in the communication campaign, conceived by Bitmama Reply and realised by TamTamy Reply. The campaign, ‘Liberal Thought, Current Dialogue,’ unfolds online and offline with various subjects that bring a series of quotes from Luigi Einaudi to the forefront - thoughts that are notable for their relevance and ability to stimulate reflections, prompting people to explore the topic and immediately start a conversation with Luigi Einaudi.
